What we care about....
Republican strategist Brad Blakeman, responding to a question about how John McCain could square his opposition to wasteful spending with the RNC shelling out over $150,000 on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin, said that the real outrage is Barack Obama: "taking a 767 campaign plane to go visit Grandma. Forget about the energy that is wasted, what about the hundreds of thousands of dollars to take a private trip when this guy should be humping his bags on a commercial plane or taking a smaller plane. Taking a 767 of campaign money from people who could least afford it is more of an outrage in my opinion."
The outrage is the feigned outrage of Mr. Blakeman. Instead of answering the question, he immediately attacks Obama. Does he really want to get into an argument about the spending habits of the candidates? Does he really want to suggest that the two events are similar? The "real outrage" is not spending $150,000 on clothes but a candidate going to see his dying grandmother? It begs the question: are Republicans really that heartless? At the end of day, I don't think voters care much about Palin and her clothes or whether Obama makes a trip to see his grandmother. They care about jobs, health insurance, retirement, their sons and daughters going to war. They care about whether they can afford to send their children to college and whether they'll have enough money to buy medicine and afford food for the table. They care about whether their government cares about people more or big corporations more. They care about who is better suited to make the big decisions that will face the next President and who will guide the economic recovery and who will recover our country's reputation in the world. Unfortunately for McCain, most Americans think that person is Obama and since they can't seem to do anything about that they are only left with their feigned outrage!
