McCain's "Civil Campaign"

John McCain initially promised to run a "civil campaign," and promised not to use negative attack ads. Lately though it seems he is following the politics of George Bush and Karl Rove. Regardless of whether or not you are a Democrat or a Republican this type of politics should disgust you. In Obama's book "Audacity of Hope" he writes,
"What's troubling is the gap between the magnitude of our challenges and the smallness of our politics--the ease with which we are distracted by the petty and the trivial, our chronic avoidance of tough decisions, our seeming inability to build a working consensus to tackle any big problem."
With all the challenges we are facing today it is unbelievable that John McCain would focus on attacking his opponent rather than presenting his own answers to America's pressing troubles. Hopefully the outcry from the media and the public over these latest ads will convince McCain that America really does want a change from this type of negative politics. With any luck in the next couple of months he will heed his own advice and truly run a “civil campaign.”
