Have a Big Mac!
The American Family Association, an ultra-conservative group focused on good old American values, has announced a boycott of McDonald's. According the the AFA McDonald's is a part of a giant gay agenda. They accuse McDonald's of "refusing to remain neutral in the cultrue wars. McDonald's has chosen not to remain neutral, but to give the full weight of their corporation to promoting the homosexual agenda."
Specifically, AFA is upset at McDonald's because their Vice-President of Communications, Richard Ellis, is serving on the Board of Directors of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. AFA President Donald Widmon has called upon McDonald's to condemn Mr. Ellis' decision to serve on this board. According to a statement released by McDonald's "We treat our employees and our customers with respect and dignity regardless of ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other factors. We support our employees person involvement in organizations of their choice."
You may remember the AFA from some of their other boycotts. They boycotted Wal-Mart for selling "Brokeback Mountain DVD's, The Ford Motor Company for advertising in gay-friendly publications, and Disney for its embrace of a gay lifestyle.
AFA claims it is supporting the American Family through the silly boycott's and overt displays of intolerance. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure it isn't gays and lesbians who are threatening the American family. The divorce rate in America for first marriages is 41%, for second marriages is is 60% and for third marriages it is 73%. There are lots of reasons for Amerca's high divorce rate.......I don't think it has much to do with gays! Perhaps Mr. Widmon should go looking elsewhere and turn the power of his organization to something more important.....meanwhile, I think I'll go to Micky's and have a Big Mac!
